Cars, roads and driving: 3 words and 4 chords!

lyrics

It will be alright
As I pulled out my ticket
Torn and out of date
And my plane was a leaving
To find the girl that was leaving
Out the back of interstate
And I thought about driving
Thought about training
Maybe rocket ship was the way
Just sit here drink another coffee
She can wait for another day

When we first meet i drove an old Ford wagon
This country still made cars
Plenty of room and a cigarette lighter
The boot held my old guitar
Petrol went up then tariffs came down
I was stuck with a thirsty beast
I sold it to a farmer
Must have been karma
Saw it out on the road all week

Money talked but I was never there
If you paid in cash I’d loose a couple of big
ones down the back of my chair
Once I traded up things were going down
To something that left me cold only drove it on
the edge of town

No it wasn’t me no with the three on the tree
Was a mainstream auto job
Then I started scouring paddocks and wreckers yards
For my full on car hearthrob

Found her on blocks
Full of clothes and dirty socks
Just a few miles down the road
There was no AC but three in the tree
And my smile hit the mother lode

She drives real rough drives real dirty
But that’s the one for me
In a certain time in a certain light
You cannot see
All the dents and scratches the unlit matches
She’s looking like my auto queen
Now I know you know it’s lost when it goes
And you're living with this weeks dream.

She the one that never lets me down
Just let her cruise a bit
The engine hums a beautiful sound
Came off the blocks gearbox intact
Eats up the paddocks and hills and the dried
up creeks out back

So I’ll start right early to leave tomorrow morning
And get there the best I can
And the girl that was leaving will be saddened and grieving
That I’m not travelling overland
When we get back together for a week or forever
And go over bumpy roads
But she’s for me with her three in the tree
She can carry all my heavy loads
